Despite all my positive intentions, I’ve spent the past 10 days or so in a fug of fedupness (I know that is not a word). No progress has been made on the crochet front, few lists have been written and no sketches made. I’ve definitely had a dose of gloomy-itis and cabin-fever which has not been helped by the dull, low-light days. I’m missing my long walks with the dog, the dog is missing our long walks and we’ve both been moping. Friends have called in for coffee, which has kept me this side of very fed-up indeed, and I have been out of the house, but there has been no stomping across the cliffs and fields. A good stomp is part of my daily routine and I miss it. Never mind. Only four more weeks and the toe should be good to go. And, hooray, today is a glorious sunshine-y day. A stroll/hobble around the garden with my camera made me feel much perkier. I do love the shadows, shapes and colours in this winter sunshine. It’s so sunny that I was even inspired to clean the kitchen windows which has made me feel very virtuous and everything suddenly looks a lot brighter!
I know what you mean, I have felt the same but it is worse for you with your broken toe. But it has been so gloomy. Hoorah for a bit of sun today.

Oh you lucky eastern dwellers! Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. It’s unspeakably gloomy in the west country, despite a forecast to the contrary. I was all set to get outside this afternoon, then the wind and rain returned 😦

We’re back to dull greyness outside again today but I’ve given myself a good talking to and there will be no more ‘feeling sorry for myself’ posts! Thank you CJ x

Thanks Sarah. It is pretty horrid again today but I have a lit candle on the kitchen table and will ban the gloom from the house!

Hoprfully the toe will be better just in time for the turn of the year and everything will start to look brighter. It’s just at the point where you start to understand why they invented yule/Christmas. Keep trying at the crochet; it really is a very soothing activity!

Thanks Lynda. I’ll give it another go as I have visions of rainbow-coloured blankets and cushions.

I’m sorry you’re feeling so confined. I understand where you’re coming from, having spent lots of time on bedrest before and after my pregnancies. I shudder to think what my blogging would have been like if I’d been blogging back then. Hang in there, I hope you have a good weekend.

Thank you Jennifer. I do feel a little sheepish about my gloomy post as I’d made a promise to myself that it should always exude positivity. Oh well. I’ve got over myself now! Hope you’re having a good weekend x

It was lovely yesterday – just what we all needed after the most depressing November weather-wise in living memory. I was inspired to hang washing on the line and plant tulips at the allotment. Here’s hoping we have more sunny days in December and that your poor toe is soon better. Gorgeous photos too, thank you Sam.

Thank you Sarah. It was a lovely day, wasn’t it? We appreciate it all the more after the gloom. It sounds as though you’ve been very industrious and now you’ll have wonderful tulips to look forward to next year. They always cheer me up x

Sorry you have the glums, it isn’t much fun at this time of year if you are stuck indoors is it, I hope that your friends coming by help to keep you cheery. I always think of something I read in a book, at the end of January you can go for a walk after tea in the light, just think that it is nearly the shortest day and then it is all lighter after that! xx

Thanks Amy. This time of year doesn’t usually get me down – I’m sure it is the lack of exercise. I’ve started going on David’s rowing machine (carefully, not using my foot) in an attempt to get some happy hormones flowing!

Hi Sam, sorry to hear you’ve been feeling so low. I sympathise, I’ve also had a low week, for no good reason personally though world and political events have added to the gloom. Oddly, candles do help, all those little things that lift the spirits just a touch and take us out of the everyday into something just slightly special.
I hope you have a better week to come. Take care of yourself, Deborah xox

Thank you Deborah. It does feel as though we are in dark times, doesn’t it? As you say, all the more reason to light candles and appreciate our people and surroundings x

It’s amazing what a difference exercise (especially outdoors) makes to a sense of well-being, isn’t it? Light a few more candles and hang in there. That first walk outside is going to feel mighty good.

Love your photos. It is so frustrating isn’t when you want to be outside and can’t – I get cabin fever too!. Hope you are soon back out on your walks with your dog.

Glad you are enjoying the sun. The light on a mild but clear day does have a softer, glowing quality in December.
